SPARK Pilates February Issue

Happy Month of Love and most importantly SELF LOVE!

WELLNESS JOURNEYS…. like taking a trip around the world, it takes time to invest in and explore. Along the way, we learn new things and collect experiences that (hopefully) bring joy & enhance our lives. The quest to live optimally is our duty - we get one life, one body.

Whether it’s helping to calm an inflamed body, build our resilience or find ways to de-stress, it all contributes to a better quality of life. There is no panacea. Just know that optimal health is a lifestyle commitment and small efforts add up and affect positive wellbeing.

In this, our first communication we hope you enjoy getting to know us better through our “beyond Pilates” health efforts, that keep us well and hopefully inspire you to do the same.

In the past, I’ve had the luxury of escaping for a few weeks during late fall and again in the depths of winter, traveling to warm locations to recharge. Now though, being a “solepreuneur” it’s been full on pedal to the metal. Precious regenerative down time has to count BIG TIME.

Here’s what I’ve been up to:

For over a year I’ve been exploring Red Light Therapy. Whether it’s my daily dose of Red Light/Near Infrared Light (NIR) which is said to enhance the mitochondria (energy powerhouses of cells) or sweating out toxins in a far infrared sauna made with non-toxic materials. I believe these tools have helped me stay injury free and resilient.

Although these practices definitely required me to drop some cash, I view them as I do Pilates - an investment in my quality of life. If you find it valuable, you’ll find a way.

BUT! Not every wellness effort needs to cost money. In fact, here’s one thing that I’m doing that is healthy AND costing me nothing. Zero ALCOHOL consumption! This past fall I committed to a dry 8 weeks and I’m continuing to reserve consumption for only “on occasion” -What I have found is that my sleep is deep, my liver has got to be happier and I’m better hydrated.

On the topic of Hydration, it’s so important to remain hydrated after using the sauna, pre/post-exercise, and alcohol use. For years, I’ve been a big fan of the electrolyte HYDRATE by Age Quencher, a Canadian Naturopathic Doctor created line of supplements and products.

HALYNA DOBROVOLSKA

Hey, I’m Halyna and for the two months I’ve been singing regularly in a so called "white voice". It's a native style, basically an "organized shouting". Everything should go effortlessly in native voice, relaxed, no tension. You just breathe and sing, let the sound flow and fill the room. I try to practice twice a day - in the morning to help me wake up and face the day’s demands of talking the whole day, and in the evening to check whether I can still be relaxed by the end of the day of talking and moving people around.
